A few minutes spent in reading this guide will save time and trouble in locating the desired information. The entry is basic until of the Index. It includes a heading and it may include subheads and see also cross references. The heading stands at the beginning of the entry and determines its alphabetical position. It is followed by the volume and page number that will lead the searcher to the best general information on the subject. Subheads, which lean to more particular information, are listed in alphabetical order below the heading. See also the cross references are used to direct the searchers to other entries that are related to the heading. The Index has three types of entries: Article title entries. The Heading of these entries is set in boldface capital letters and are followed by volume and page numbers indicating where the article appears in the encyclopedia. Entries on subjects for which there are no article, but which are covered in other articles. The headings of these entries are set in boldface capital and lowercase letters. References which refer the reader from one Index entry to another. They are used for synonyms, pseudonyms, and abbreviations, for inverted headings and for alternative spelling or forms.
