Аннотация: Pride and Prejudice is an 1813 romantic novel by Jane Austen. It charts the emotional development of protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, who learns the error of making hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between the superficial and the essential. The comedy of the writing lies in the depiction of manners, education, marriage, and money during the British Regency period. Mr. Bennet of the Longbourn estate has five daughters, but his property is entailed, meaning that none of the girls can inherit it. His wife has no fortune, so it is imperative that at least one of the girls marry well in order to support the others upon his death. Jane Austen's opening line, "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife", is a sentence filled with irony and playfulness. The novel revolves around the importance of marrying for love, not simply for money, despite the social pressures to make a good (i.e., wealthy) match. Pride and Prejudice has long fascinated readers, consistently appearing near the top of lists of "most-loved books" among both literary scholars and the general public. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, with over 20 million copies sold, and paved the way for many archetypes that abound in modern literature.[1][better source needed] For more than a century, amateur and professional dramatic adaptations, print continuations and sequels, and film and TV versions of Pride and Prejudice have reimagined the original novel's memorable characters and themes to reach mass audiences.[2] The 2005 film, Pride & Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen is the most recent Hollywood adaptation of the book.

Her work “Sense and Sensibi­lity” is the histories of love of two Dashwood sisters: of reasonable Elinor who always takes into consideration common sense and the rules of propriety, and impulsive Marianne who is not ashamed of the ardency of her feelings and responds to the call of her heart. Such different are the characters and so differing is the reaction to the challenges thrown down at them by the fate. Still, the hope for the better future does not die out in the soul of each of them. Реалістичність змальованих образів і неперевер­шене відтворення атмосфери старої Англії стали візитівкою британської письменниці Джейн Остін (1775—1817). Її твір “Чуття і чуттєвість” — історії кохання двох сестер Дешвуд: розсудливої Елінор, що завжди зважає на здоровий глузд і норми пристойності, та імпульсивної Маріанни, котра не соромиться палкості своїх почуттів і йде за покликом серця. Такі різні характери і такі ж неоднакові реакції на виклики, які кидає їм доля, але в душі кожної з них не згасає надія на краще майбутнє.

Аннотация: “The Good Soldier” is one of the best novels of Ford Madox Ford (1873—1939), a reputable writer that significantly influenced the development of English literature and that is often called a godfather of E. Hemingway and D. H. Lawrence. The story of a soldier Edward Ashburnham is presented in a form of memories. The narrator neglects chronological order, sometimes mixes up dates, forgets some details and, having remembered them, goes off on a tangent — thus creating an effect of a trustful narration to a close person. Ford himself called his style literary impressionism and as in music or painting tried not only to narrate but also to communicate impressions.
